Probate

Help with the paperwork, responsibilities, and questions that come with settling an estate.

How we can help

When someone dies, family members are often expected to handle legal and financial responsibilities while they are still grieving. Even an apparently straightforward estate can involve court filings, property, creditors, deadlines, tax questions, and communication among beneficiaries.

We help personal representatives and families understand what needs to be done and in what order. We explain the Maine probate process in plain language, help organize the work, and address legal issues as they arise.

Some estates move through administration without significant disagreement. Others involve unclear documents, difficult assets, competing interpretations, family conflict, or claims against the estate. Our role is to help clients recognize those issues early and choose a sensible path forward.

Serving as a personal representative is an important legal responsibility, but it does not mean you have to know every rule or manage every issue alone. We help clients distinguish between tasks they can handle themselves and matters that require legal attention. When a genuine dispute develops, we are prepared to negotiate when productive and go to court when necessary.
